Red Warning for Cyclonic Storm “BUREVI”
Department of Meteorology said that a Cyclone to cross the eastern coast of Sri Lanka on December 02, 2020.
PLEASE BE AWARE!
The deep depression area in the south-west Bay of Bengal has concentrated into a cyclonic Strom ‘ BUREVI’. And lay centered near latitude 7.9°N and longitude 84.8°E, about 400 km east-southeast of Trincomalee at 1730hrs today (01st December). (News On This Day)
However, the Department of Meteorology said that the system is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours.
The system is very likely to move west-northwestwards and cross the eastern coast of Sri Lanka between Batticaloa and Point-Pedro around Wednesday (02nd December) evening/night.
WARNINGS:
Under the influence of the aforementioned system, from 01st December to 03rd December;
- The sea area around the island will be very rough to high as the wind speed can be increased up to (80-100) kmph at times.
- After that, the storm will be a surge of about 1-meter height above the astronomical tide is likely to inundate low lying areas of east Sri Lanka coast during landfall.
